MiniMUNs are new this year and are designed to introduce UN Society members to Model UNs in a relaxed, friendly environment. MiniMUNs are a great opportunity to get used to the way Model UN works, from understanding the Rules of Procedure to back-room negotiating.
As we only have two hours, not two days, we don’t follow the full MUN process. Instead, we take a pre-prepared draft resolution or small situation and discuss it. The main focus is on preparing and debating amendments to that resolution or preparing a statement on an issue.
The MiniMUN Rules of Procedure are avilable here to look at, but don’t be intimidated – they’re really quite simple – and members with MUN experience will be happy to help you out on the day.
Our first session for semester 2 will be a Security Council simulation of the current crisis in Georgia. We will have a breif background paper prepared closer to the day to help you come to terms with the key issues involved.
