President's Welcome
On behalf of the Executive welcome to the UN Society. It was called “the Parliament of Man” by President Harry Truman and since its inception in 1945 the United Nations has had a special place in the world and the hearts of we the people. It was founded with the goals of maintaining international peace and security, ensuring universal adherence to human rights and promoting social and economic equality and justice. The UNSW UN Society believes strongly in these goals and the UN’s essential role in achieving them.
Hence, our mission is to bring the UN and its causes to the forefront at our university. We believe that the UN and its works, as well as our society’s support of them, have a broad appeal to students of all degrees and offers both educational and career opportunities to the greatest numbers of students.
Our primary goal this year is to get members involved in our society and ultimately in the UN. Our plans to achieve this goal are to promote a diplomatic culture and get people discussing and thinking about world affairs. Other measures include sending delegations to conferences overseas and organising humanitarian initiatives for organisations such as UNICEF.
To members new and old we welcome you and look forward to working with you in what is sure to be an exciting and successful year at the UN society.
